Mark and I had a relaxing visit to Kauai. We really needed some R & R. We did a lot of sunning by the pool, watching the waves come in. Meanwhile the kids had a nice time with the grandparents and did lots of fun stuff. Here we are overlooking Hanalei Bay, the view of the taro fields in Hanalei and the Kilauea Point Lighthouse.
I cast on for Clapotis in the airport while waiting for our first plane to depart and by the time we got to Kauai I had knit up almost one whole skein of Noro Silk Garden. My hands started to get sore as I was nearing the end of the skein so I put down the knitting and did some journal writing. It was nearly a whole day of travel so there was lots of time to knit. While in Kauai I knit on it every day and never got to the socks that I had planned as a boredom saver. Clapotis kept my interest like nothing before for some reason. Usually I need to have several things going at once, but I just kept going and going on this one. By the time we got home I was about half way through the straight section. Since we've been home this week I've had less time for knitting, but I'm to the end of the straight section and will start decreasing soon.
You'll notice that the stitches have dropped down on only a few of the columns. Silk Garden requires picking them out individually, so I'm waiting on that for now. I think this colorway is really beautiful and I haven't tried to control the color changes from skein to skein. True to form, Silk Garden has knots just like almost every other skein of Noro I've tried. I prefer to let my Noro stripe as it will by chance rather than try to control it.
I started these fingerless mitts before the trip and I hope to finish them soon. They are a really quick knit. I'm sort of using the mitt pattern from WendyKnits, but the numbers are a little different. The yarn is my one decadence for the holiday. It's a handspun that I got at my LYS and it cost a fortune, but it is so beautiful and lovely to work with, it's really making me want to take up spinning.
Now, here are a couple of photos I tried to post earlier, but I couldn't get them to work. This is the quilt I made for my sister and her husband for Christmas and the kitty bed with handsome Vinnie in it.
