Working Wonders

20080121654

One day in January I took Ryan and his buddy, Bennett, to the local Children's Museum and they had the most fabulous time.  It was so much fun to watch them in the vet's office performing all the necessary tasks to help out their doggy friends.

The boys also spent a fair amount of time in the construction zone which is their other favorite spot.  After that it was a trip to the ice cream store.  What a grand day out!

COOL Bread

20080122027

We had a COOL group bread baking day that was a lot of fun.  Several moms brought dough and the kids had a great time forming shapes.

We played a few games while the dough rose and baked, then had a delicious snack of warm bread right out of the oven. YUM!

Farewell Bend

20080121846

We had some sunny weather in January and took a nice walk at the park.  There was a lot of ice on the path so we didn't go far, but it was beautiful.

Some of the girls took the opportunity to draw in their nature journals.  Here's Chloe's.

Chloe's broken wrist #2

She did it again.  This time it was from ice skating.  The really funny thing is that the same two friends were with her for this broken wrist as were there for the first one.

Wanoga Sno Park

20080121685

We took advantage of the school kids going back to school in early January to have the sno park to ourselves.  What a blast we had.  I even went down the run several times.  Chloe had hurt her wrist the day before so she didn't do as much, but the kids had a great time.

Then an all out snow war.

Finally the kids found a perfect snow jump and everyone took a turn!  Woohoo!

Christmas Day

Games, gifts and a light dusting of snow.  It was a nice day at our house with my parents.  Here's the day in photos.

We had another wonderful, relaxing Christmas Eve at my parent's house.  There were some hat pictures.

COOL Science

Our homeschool group had a really COOL science day in December.  One of our moms is a former elementary school science teacher.  She had us all over for some neat science experiments.  First they did a burning sugar experiment to learn what happened to the elements in the sugar during burning.  With burning, condensation was created which is the H2O separating from the carbon.

In the second experiment the kids used driveway salt to create an exothermic reaction.  Ryan participated in this one and thought it was COOL!

Lastly, the kids made some penguin postcards to send to the Antarctic Research Station.  These were then mailed back to the kids with the rare Antarctic postal cancellation.   These will be treasured for a long time!

Christmas Trees

On December 1st Grammy and Grampa took the kids out to hunt for a Christmas tree while Mark and I were on a trip.  They had only a bit of snow so it was pretty easy getting around while they looked.  Here in Oregon you can get a $5 permit to cut your tree in the Deschutes National Forest, so there really is a fair amount of hunting involved!

A couple of weeks later we were finally able to go out and get our Christmas tree.  We decided to drive up the Black Butte road this time.  It took a while, but we found a mighty fine tree also!
