Hot off the press

158

My friend, Erin, and I spent the afternoon in Sisters enjoying the Fiber Arts Stroll.  It was really neat to see so many wonderful artists.  I didn't manage to get a single photo, but had to show you all that this new book by Jean Wells has just come out.  This is where Jean has been going for the past several years and her ideas on color and line are really worth checking out.  If you were intrigued by the class that I took with Jean last year you might want to see for yourself.  It's all in there including several pieces made by students in the class I took.  I might have gotten a quilt in there myself if only I'd finished it!  Oh well, I'm so glad everyone can now get this fantastic book.

Tomorrow is my first class with Gwen Marston- can you hear the squeals as I say that?  I'll report back with notes from class.  By the way, thanks to everyone for the very nice comments filling my inbox.  I may not get to replies anytime soon, but I sure appreciate them!  Til next time...

Placemat Swap

074

I couldn't resist one more swap this spring.  This time it was a placemat swap hosted by krommama on Flickr.  This is the package I sent to my partner, Julie.  The placemat can be seen better below.  I made a simple coin quilt, but with very pretty fabrics.  The house is a hot pad and I just love the yellow daisy print in the background.  I must see if I can find more of it!  I also included a bit of tea and some homemade jam.

In return I got a fabulous package from Julie!  There were two placemats (!), some tea and cookies and some coffee candy.  The goodies had been consumed by the time the photo was taken.  Aren't these some great free pieced letters!  I'm so happy to have these.  This was one of the best swaps I've done.

I confess I haven't actually used them for dining yet, but I am contemplating it.  Perhaps a spot of tea with them would be just right.  Thank you so much Julie!  If you'd like to see more beautiful placemats, check out the Flickr group at the link above.

Happy 4th!

Happy Independence Day to my American readers!   I suppose I ought to think about another red, white and blue quilt someday before you get tired of seeing this one.

Quilt Show Sneak Peek

054

Here's your first peak of a quilt that will be in the Sisters Quilt Show next week.  This is Chloe's quilt that she named, "Streets of Tuscany".  This is the one she picked out for her 16th birthday quilt.  It was finished just a day before the first day to deliver quilts to the show.   It's machine pieced, hand appliqued and hand quilted.

055

The houses are a Kaffe Fassett design though I added the little green windows.  The fabrics are Kaffe's stripes and shot cottons.  It has the Tuscany Silk batting and so it's very light.

056

You can see some of the quilting on the border.  All the quilting is done free hand which is my preferred method nowadays.

057

I'm so happy this is done.  I have been working on some other hand quilting which I hope to show off soon as well!

Scenes from Portland

010

A couple of weeks ago Chloe and I had a girls' trip to Portland where we did all the stuff the boys aren't interested in.  We went to the Portland Art Museum where Chloe did the Steve Martin pose (if you click the photo you might be able to see better the Annie Leibovitz photo of Steve Martin).

013

We found an impromptu garden in Pioneer Courthouse Square.

016

We went to our favorite place for treats (okay, I admit the boys might have been a teeny bit interested in Saint Cupcake!).

019

We also spent an afternoon at the Portland Classical Chinese Garden

All this is to say I do have things, crafty things, to show you, but I need to download the photos.  It's been a crazy couple of weeks and the next couple will only get crazier.  Stay tuned!
